Edilberto Berríos-Pérez, Esq.

Mr. Edilberto Berríos-Perez, Esq., founder and Managing Partner of Berríos & Longo Law Offices, P.S.C. obtained his Bachelor degree in Business Administration in 1974 and his Juris Doctor degree, Magna Cum Laude, in 1977, both from the University of Puerto Rico. While completing legal studies, he worked as a law clerk for a local law firm and in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Puerto Rico.

Attorney Berríos-Pérez began private legal practice in 1977 with the law firm Dubón, González & Berríos, where he served for two years in the Banking and Litigation Departments. In 1980, he established his private legal practice, concentrating in the areas of bankruptcy and banking, primarily representing, among others, such clients as Chemical Bank, Barnett Bank, Chicago Title Insurance Company, and CNA Insurance Company.

Mr. Berríos-Pérez is admitted to all State Courts within Puerto Rico (1977), to the U. S. District Court, District of Puerto Rico (1978), to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit (1978), and to the U. S. Supreme Court (1993). He has been a member and examiner of the Puerto Rico Supreme Court Examination Board for admission to practice. He has written law review articles for the University of Puerto Rico and has been the primary speaker in seminars for the Puerto Rico Bar Association, the Puerto Rico Bankruptcy Bar, the Engineers Association of Puerto Rico, and the Puerto Rico Architects Association. These legal seminars include subjects such as evidence, bankruptcy, corporate reorganization under Chapter 11, risk administration in construction, construction litigation, appellate procedure, and lenders’ liabilities. On a regular basis, he attends continued education programs in Puerto Rico and in the United States.

Attorney Berríos-Pérez is a Board Certified Bankruptcy Specialist in Business Reorganization. He personally overviews and maintains quality control in all areas of the Firm, paying particular attention to the areas of litigation, workouts, and bankruptcy. He possesses extensive experience in litigation, including arbitration and mediation, in State and Federal Courts.

Some of his clients are Seaboard Surety, General Accident Insurance Company Puerto Rico Limited and General Accident Insurance Company of America, St. Paul’s Surety, Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., Top Kid’s, Inc., Bank Brussels Lambert, Chemical Bank, and Aguadilla Mall Corporation.
